That's right kids, we've grown up and flown the Blogger nest to set up on our own with our own damn URL. It has all sorts of fantastic new bells and whistles that even now throttle the imagination, so get over there now, update your rss readers (Stuart, George and Elena... is there anyone else?) and never darken this place again.

Oh Blogger, you've been good to us over the years, we've had some good times, and you've never asked us for owt. Ahhh, good times. Well now you can get stuffed, you're dead to us now, we've moved on and I suggest you do to. Sure you were simple to set-up and not amazingly difficult to customise, but we've grown apart, it's not you it's us.. we want our own url, we want to have sub pages, we want to hack you to hell and back so we can add twitter streams and all sorts... so ok it is you, you play your game but by your rules, well screw you and your rules sister, we've off to our new mistress, one that we can tame, tie down, hack up into tiny bits and put her back together again to make a new beast that will do our bidding. Her name is Wordpress - it wasn't easy, we didn't really know what we were doing but we've done it, we've made our very own beast, she's not perfect but she's ours.

So we're working in Gt Titchfield Street now, slap bang in the middle of London's sandwich bar packed Noho area. We're slowly exploring the lunch options which (compared to Notting Hill) are more varied and plentiful than google map mash-ups. And to document our progress we've put together a google map mash-up (ok it's not technically a 'mash-up' but the gag wouldn't have worked otherwise). It's left open for anybody to add content to, so please let us know of any of your secret sandwich bars, greasy cafes with real grease, coffee bars that don't have 5 million branches or just any other local knowledge that we really need to know and can be communicated through the medium of cartography.

Ok, we've finally gone and done it, and finished the video of last year's Fangoria. It's all a bit swanky and shot in hi-def (I know, I can't think of a reason why we did that either, other than 'why not?'), so don't get scared if it asks you to update your flash player just update the damn thing, welcome to the future. It's been online for a few days now but for some reason I've only just got round to blogging about it. 'Unto Others' is our entry into BAFTA's 60 seconds of fame competition, and it's online and ready for you to give it a 5 star rating right now! Hurray!

Right now it's just voting for fun, your votes will really count once BAFTA have chosen 5 finalists from each region, so check back after 28th of Jan and see who gets through.

Of course massive thanks to everyone involved, we never thought it would turn anything near as 'pro' as it did.

Thanks as well to Oli Freke of Cassette Electrik fame, for not only composing the theme music for us, but also putting a link on his band's mySpace site and getting us loads of lovely votes.

And thanks also go to OhSkyLab, or Paul, or whatever he calls himself now-a-days for linking us up on Anglepoised.

Unto Others

Oh fancy, we're making a little film. When I say "we" I mean us, our mate Richard Johnson, a director called Chris Klockner, a couple of actors called Roy Carroll and Frank Fitzpatrick, and a crew of about 15 people willing to give up their free time to make it with us. And when I say "making" I mean we shot it during Sunday night/Monday morning in a car park in Kilburn. We're going into edit it tonight, and once thats done then we have somebody doing CGI and grading and music for us... so it's not done yet. But even so, we only came up with the idea 2 weeks ago in our kitchen.

Here's the obligatory set of too many photos of the night.

The film is initially going to be entered into the BAFTA 60 Seconds of Fame competition which has a deadline of 4th January, so we're rushing to get it all done, but it's all on track so far. I won't go into any real details about the plot, we'll save that surprise for later.

As I've already said in a few emails, thanks to all involved and all that jazz.

We Made a Snorri Cam!

We're shooting a short film of this year's Fangoria show, and we thought we'd have a bash at building a Snorri Cam rig from bits we have lying about. We slug a tool belt on the Boob, whacked a couple of legs from a tripod in the pockets, tied a length of webbing around his back to each leg, screwed a camera on the top with a wide angle lens... and that was it, it works and everything.

ok, "what's a Snorri Cam?", well it's when you rig a camera to the actors body so it appears to float in front of them, pointing back at the actor. Some say it was invented by Icelandic photographers/film makers, the Snorri Brothers (you see what they did there with the name?). It was used a lot in Requiem for a Dream which is of course an awesome film.

Fangoria 07 is over

Well here we are, Fangoria '07 is all over, a lovely time was had by all and nobody died. The show all went off perfectly (as far as you know) and there were many fine and obscure costumes.

In between taking people on a flying saucer joyride and blowing shit up, we managed to snap a few pics of the party:

A special mention must be made of Stu's Kuato costume which marked the first audio-animatronic costume Fangoria has seen.

We've also added a whole heap of previously secret production photos to the set that was already up on Flickr

...and after many requests (ok, one request) we've put the TV station off air graphics online for all to view as well.

Thanks to all for coming, especially those that travelled so far. See you all next year, hopefully for something different.

Big Blue Shitter

Now we can't all design rockets or robot cats, somebody has to put some thought into the humble shit seat. This one (found in the Big Blue Hotel, Blackpool) has enjoyed some real TLC during the design phase. Points to note:

Low seat for good 'exiting'.
Wide seat for comfort.
heavyily tapered seat, also for good 'exiting' as it, well how can i put it? Allows for a good 'parting'.

In other news we also took maybe more photos than we should have during our weekend in Blackpool to celebrate Auntie Chells 70th. If you've got a few days to spare why not have a browse?

Fame

Who are those hot looking guys on Three Speech? Ho ho ho, what a gas I am. Yes it's us. We popped along to 3Rooms last week to play a Warhawk tournament. Sadly the Warhawk thing didn't work. So we just ate and drank at Sony's pleasure. Also was a presentation of the not that inspiring Heavenly Sword. The game's producer was there to receive a grilling from the geeks, and oddly enough Andy something (guy that played Golem and Kong) turned up to talk about his involvement. He was surprisingly accessible and offered some interesting points on the games dynamic. I ate all the pizza whilst G got his arse served (far right) to him in Warhawk.

Children of Men

So we finally got round to watching Children of Men last night as we taped it off the telly on our sky box thingy months ago, and oh my is it good. OK so the plot is a bit predictable, and some of the dialogue and acting could be better but the direction is sweet. A great attention to detail in the art direction (check out the 2012 Olympics jumper worn towards the end of the film by Clive and the Guantanamo Bay pastiche in the 'fugee center) along with massive long hand held single shot action sequences make for a genuinely believable vision of the future. There are no sweeping CG aerial camera angles of cityscapes, people don't all listen to ambient trance, America has blown up, nothing flys that shouldn't fly, there's no overly elaborate computer systems - ok, maybe a few odd looking computer screens, but nobody has to wear special gloves to operate anything... except that one guy on the games console, ok it's not perfect but I liked it alright? sheesh, you people. It's even got a dog track in it, and no, the dogs are not robots.

Fangoria '07 - First Blood

Fangoria production has been underway for the last month or so (photos coming soon, invite coming sooner), but we've only just witnessed our first blood letting from an injury sustained during building. Last year this happened on day one.

This looks fake I know but trust me, it's very real. I cannot recommend running your finger down the length of a metal tape measure at speed.

We borrowed a camera from bob so we now had two identical decent cameras (canon s80) to do a proper test of this effect. This time we kept the camera still and had the subject (me) move in and out of the sweet spot. It works much better.

We spent last night in the privileged company of Mr Phil Harrison and the PS3 at Sony's 3rooms venue off Brick Lane. Phil whizzed through his (totally and sweet) GDC presentation then opened the floor to a Q&A. A few dumb questions from fanboys, but mostly an intelligent debate. Then the main event... the free buffet. We're talking lots of excellent finger food here. Lumps of lemon and ginger chicken on a stick, little veggie tarts, posh bits of beef on crackers with shaved parmesan, cheese sticks, moose, choc tarts, big bowl of chocy snacks. Oh, and a load of PS3s in a big swanky chilled out lounge environment. AND FREE BEER!

We saw Faust last night, A promenade theatre piece by Punch Drunk, set over 5 stories of an abandoned warehouse in wapping. I've never come out of a show before with red nail polish and oh boy you should hear how that happened... but you won't unless you go see the show. It really is properly awesome.

Learnings

Well it's the second day of 2007 and already I've learnt two things:

1. Cliff from Cheers (john Ratzenberger) is in Superman as 'Controller #1'. He's the soldier who cant get the auto destruct to work on the missiles. According to imdb he reprised the role in Superman II but that wasn't on over Christmas so I cannot confirm or deny this data.

2. I learnt enough php mad skillz to transform the (lets face it, a bit crap) Flickr badge thingy. Into the beautiful butterfly you see above, our (lets face it, awesome) title flash thingy that pulls in stuff from Flickr and shit. I'll post the php code if anybody cares, it's probably rubbish, but it seems to work.

Another year, another blog, another waste of time

Hi kids. Yeah, we started a new blog to fill with any old crap we feel like. Kind of a traditional "weblog" if you like. Yeah, you know how that works. Anyway, here's some shit i guess;

We've started planing the construction of Fangoria 2007. As ever, we've given ourselves an idea, but not worked out how the fudge to do it. To the right there you can see Al planing a complex set piece using industrial standard stage building blocks... a burger menu. Also, we got a new lens, it's totally sweet low f-stop prime thingy. G hates it, but I loves it. More demo pics here.
